World record size Atlantic Sailfish have rightfully made the area famous, as well as a variety of game fish such as Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, Snapper and Barracuda are among other targeted species. Well, if you want to target Atlantic Blue Marlin, the island of Principe is a place to go. Every season brings on fishing action with Blues coming in on to the lures in small hunting packs with exceptional tenacity that may be unrivalled.

The tropical island of Príncipe is one of the world’s least explored and most exciting Big Game Fishing destinations. World record size Atlantic Sailfish have rightfully made the area famous, as well as a variety of game fish such as Marlin, Yellow Fin Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado, Snapper and Barracuda are among other targeted species. Atlantic Blue Marlin Mid June to mid August, with July to mid-August (locally known as the Gravanna) being peak season. Fish have been caught in all the calendar months though, for example December and January regularly produce a run of smaller fish in the 300 pound range. Their average weight in peak season can be an astonishing 500 lb, and several granders (1000 lb plus) have been fought, caught and released here. Double and triple headers are not uncommon and the fishing grounds are as close as it gets anywhere. Atlantic Sailfish Peak season runs from September to December with mid September to mid November normally producing the best results. Sailfish can also be commonly caught from late March to August. Although sailfish average about 80 lb in these waters, it is common to catch 100-lb-plus fish and the resort's record (which was not IGFA claimed) stands at 149.87 lb, A good average number of strikes (often simultaneously) provides great fun on both conventional and fly fishing gear. Known as being one of the world’s best big Atlantic sailfish destinations and having 6 world records to its credit, Bom Bom offers excellent fishing for Peixe Andala (as it is locally known) Yellowfin Tuna Difficult to pin point when these fish make appearances on the island, great fishing has been had in February and March. Large fish however seem to be most consistent from May to October. Sizes in these waters can vary from football size to occasionally massive fish in excess of 100 lb and the resort record stands at 212 lb Wahoo Can be caught year round, but more predominantly during the Gravanna season as well as during the height of the Sailfish season from September to December. Dorado Predominantly from May to September, some years they are caught well into December, January and even February. Fishing is an expensive sport that requires precious holiday time. We feel it is important to advise guests that fishing is well below standard during January and February. The sea conditions are fantastic, but fishing does go through a dip during this period. – We have a Catch & Release policy for all billfish and resident reef fish captured and cater for experienced and novice anglers alike. Boats The resort has two 28 Foot True World Marines: SRIKER and Blue MARLIN. One of them is kitted out for big game fishing. A maximum of 4 fishermen can go on board. The boats are powered by 315hph Yanmar diesels and Yanmar ZT370 stern-drives. They cruise at 24 knots and have a top end speed close to 28 knots. Both boats are equipped with Furuno Nav net /GPS/Sounders and VHF Marine radios. The walk-around design makes these boats very suitable for stand-up and fly fishing. Striker is equipped with Standard fighting chair and outriggers. Bom Bom Island Resort It is the only resort on the island of Principe that caters for Big Game Fishing and will gladly set up fishing packages as well as accommodation.
