Good fishing off Mallorca – even without big fish

The tuna season off Mallorca is in full swing – but this year is much different than usual. The purse seiners, who had met their quotas in 2-3 days in previous years, have now (begining of June) been on the move for 2 weeks and are still fishing. Trawlers to tow the net cages and fishing boats from Spain France, Italy and Malta now operate north of Ibiza and west of Mallorca. The big fish, it seems, are coming late this year. Maybe because the water is still cold at around 19 ⁰C? In addition, the tuna season before the Canary Islands this year lasted longer than usual.

Nevertheless, fishing off Alcudia is still good even without the giants. Johannes and Norbert fished 5 days with Capt. Vince Riera on the MAD Max and caught 5 Bluefins with 76, 97, 122, 190 and 216 kg (according to length weight formula).

All fish were extremely good fighters, the drill of the heaviest tuna lasted 1 hour and 40 minutes on the 130er device. All fish were tagged and released.
