A short Pentecost holiday in Alcudia, Mallorca with my girlfriend Elke is almost a ritual. And this time a special pleasure, because skipper Toni Rieira and his brother Vinz invited me to inaugurate their new boat. It is a beautiful 37 ft Sunseeker with 2 x 285 hp and aptly named CARPE DIEM. The boat is a Sportfisher version but relatively high in the water with a cruising speed of 23-25 ??knots and waves. We fished in the shade of Cap Formentor due to the strong drift and had a bite on dead squid on the deep rod – and I had the honor to inaugurate the fighting chair of the CARPE DIEM. At 55 kg the tuna was relatively small, but nonetheless a good start. The next day Vinz had three novices on board who together caught a 140 kg tuna. In the future I will have a good alternative if Toni’s SQUITX is fully booked. Vinz (at the right in the picture below) has all the tricks it takes.
