Like every year I visited Panama again in March, guiding this time Gerhard, Max, Jörg, Sandro, Frank, Jens and Andreas. For all of them it was the first visit to this destination and for some it was even their first experience in warm saltwater. On the first day some of them had to learn it the hard way that this kind of fishery is totally different from pilking in Norway or from any kind of freshwater fishing. After the third cast Sandro’s popper was attacked by an enormous rooster but unfortunately the 80lb line broke in the run. Frank got surprised by a big cubera snapper and Andreas lost one during the landing; all lessons learned! But we still had 6 more days to go. With the strong wind and the high swell from the Pacific it was not an easy task inshore. But the days with calm conditions offered awesome fishing action with lots of feeding frenzies. Sometimes we got fish with almost every cast. Most of the fish were jack crevalle which gave a hell of a fight on light tackle. Rooster were following the lure all the way to the boat, sometimes 3, 4 or more fish at the same time but they turned out to be a bit picky this week. Gerhard got three of them and took the lead. Unfortunately we lost a few more nice fish after the mentioned fish from Sandro at the first day. Jens had the chance and his popper got inhaled by a huge Rooster but it threw the hooks during the first run, that’s fishing! Altogether the fishing was typical for Panama with lots of different species. Every day we landed some nice Amberjacks, colourful Silk Snapper and some great looking Yellowtail Snapper. The boat of Max, Jörg and Andreas specialized in catching Grouper. They managed to hold some nice Broomtail Grouper into the camera but got beaten their ass quite often. Brutal attacks on rubber shads followed by short unstoppable runs leaving a surprised angler. Nevertheless Andeas was able to pay an open bill and landed a nice Cubera on stickbait. The boat of Frank, Jens and Andreas found a group of Mullet Snapper at the end of the week and landed five fish after some spectacular attacks right in front of the boat. It was a fantastic week with great guys in a fantastic mood, great food and perfect service. All guys agreed that this was definitely not the last visit to Panama for them. Watch an awesome short movie from the group before us and get fascinated by the fishing action Panama has to offer and what makes us travel so far: https://youtu.be/UXB35HIg1DA Robert Balkow www.getawaytours.eu
